Alexey E. Kontorovich, RAS Academician, Ph. D in geology and mineralogy, professor and leader of a large and renowned  scientific school for petroleum geologists, was born on January, 28 1934 in the city of Kharkov.

In 1951 he entered Physics Department of Tomsk State University (TSU). In 1956 after graduating university majoring in physics, he began to work as assistant lecturer  at Physics Department, TSU.

The milestones in his scientific records are as follows:
1964 - conferred with Ph D in geology and mineralogy
1969 - conferred with Doctor in geology and mineralogy
1971 - approved in professorship
1981 - awarded with the Order of the Red Banner and Labor
1982 -  until present Professor at  Novosibirsk State
1989 - awarded with the title  «Honored Russian Geologist».
1989 - 1997 гг. Deputy Director General, the United Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineralogy from Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences
1990 - voted into Corresponding member Russian Academy of Sciences
1991 - voted into Full member Russian Academy of Sciences
1994 - awarded  with the State Prize for the scientific substantiation and discovery of the Precambrian petroleum potential of Siberian platform
1997 - 2006   Director of the Institute of Petroleum Geology SB RAS
2000 - awarded with the  Oder of Honour
2003 - awarded with the RF State Prize in the domain of science and engineering
2004 -  awarded with the Order of Merit for Country of the IV Degree;
2005 - awarded with the “Triumph” Prize, Russian independent prize for outstanding achievements in sciences;
2006 - 2007 - Director of Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics SB RAS,  Science Advisor  - since 2007.
2009 - awarded with the Order of Merit for Country of the III Degree
2009 - awarded with the «Global Energy» Prize

He has authored over 1000 professional publications, including 50 monographs, 4 inventions and 4 patents.
