Ambassador, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Stockholm
Mikael Eriksson is the coordinator of international energy policies at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and holds the rank of Ambassador. He is also Swedish Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Previously, Mikael Eriksson has served as Director and Head of the Ministers Office at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm. His role was to manage an office of some 35 staff and to advise the Minister for Foreign Affairs, the late Ms Anna Lindh and her successor, Ms Laila Freivalds. Earlier assignments in Stockholm include that of Head of the Ministry’s diplomatic training programme, and Desk Officer for multilateral financial institutions
Mr Eriksson’s latest posting abroad was as Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Swedish Embassy in Ottawa. In this capacity, he was responsible for the Embassy’s reporting on Canadian domestic politics as well as foreign and security policy; economic developments and focus issues such as energy and the Arctic. Mr. Eriksson has had previous diplomatic postings in France and Belgium, working with the Swedish Delegation to the OECD in Paris and the Swedish Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels. During his five years in Brussels, he was a member of the core team preparing for and managing the first Swedish Presidency of the European Union, in the spring of 2001.
Mr. Eriksson is a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of War Sciences. He is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Swedish Network on Oil and Gas.
Mr. Eriksson has a Masters degree in Business and Economics from the Stockholm School of Economics.
