Mr Bjerkemo has over 25 years of experience with oil spill response in different positions working for Norwegian Pollution Control Authority (SFT), Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) and as a consultant. He has been head of the operations section of the Department of Emergency Response.
For the last years he has been international coordinator in the Department for Emergency Response of Norwegian Coastal Administration.
He has broad experience from the regulatory side of oil spill response and from several incidents in the last 20 years.
He is chair of the EPPR (Emergency, Prevention, Preparedness and Response) working group of Arctic Council and the Bonn agreement working group OTSOPA.
Presentation Abstract 'Oil Spill Prevention, preparedness and Response in the Arctic'
The presentation will focus on the ongoing work of developing recommended best practices in prevention of marine oil pollution in the Arctic covering shipping, oil exploration and production and land based activities. Main outcomes from BoHaSa report - one of the major reports of EPPR working group addressing behavior of oil and other hazardous substances in the Arctic - will be presented. The highlights from “Arctic Emergencies, Current and future risks, Mitigation and Response Cooperation” report will also be addressed in the speech.
